Ketahui mengenai Obesiti!

Laporan Kesihatan tentang Obesiti

Susan Bowerman, MS, RD, CSSD

Salam semua!

ha-wm-wellness-report-obesity

How much exercise do you need?

Doing crunches during a gym classFor some, a 30 minute workout is perfect. For others, a longer gym session is necessary to reach fitness goals. So how do you know how much exercise you really need? Read on to find out how you can determine a personalized activity plan.
I’m a firm believer that there’s no such thing as one–size-fits-all when it comes to fitness. We’re all individuals with our own preferences, especially when it comes to getting fit. We each have our own unique body type (unless you’re an identical twin), and we each have different needs and goals. How much exercise you need depends on your overall goal. What may be a good workout plan for you may not be the best for someone else. Let me guide you to find a nutrition and fitness plan that works best for your own schedule and current fitness level.
There are several sources that recommend a weekly 150 minutes of exercise (about 30 minutes, five times a week) for weight-loss and general health.  This is classified by moderate to vigorous physical activity.  However, let’s say your goal is to run a marathon. In this case, you’ll need to train for a lot longer than 30 minutes at a time. If your goal is simply to lose weight or improve you overall fitness level, 30 minutes may be all you need.
Striving to achieve the minimum recommended amount of activity is important for everyone. When you think about it, 30 minutes is a relatively short time commitment and is, in my opinion, a very achievable goal. I believe that although a workout time of 30 minutes is adequate for achieving the health benefits associated with exercise, you should attempt to schedule a longer workout. Approximately 50-60 minutes per day will allow you to have an additional focus on yourself. This extra time could be for a warm up, cool down as well as time to write in an exercise journal or prepare a healthy post exercise snack.
Your activity plans shouldn’t be something that stresses you out. It’s counter productive to have to rush right after your exercise routine. I think it somehow spoils the good mood that performing activity can have on your body.

Don’t overdo it

When it comes to exercise, too much of a good thing can spoil it. Overdoing your workout can be just as harmful as not doing any at all. There are several reasons as to why doing too much exercise can set you back:
Weight Loss: Taking your fitness to the extreme may actually slow down your metabolism and that’s because your body tries to conserve precious energy, causing you to burn fewer calories. In addition, maxing out your intensity level without sufficient breaks may stimulate the release of cortisol, a stress hormone linked to weight gain.
Muscle Growth: Exercising promotes small tears in your muscle fiber, and as they heal, your muscles grow. Without a sufficient healing period and adequate nutrition, your muscles won’t regenerate properly.
Overall Health: Severe cases of over-exercising can lead to exhaustion, dehydration, serious injury and even rhabdomyolysis—a condition that occurs when muscle tissue breaks down and muscle fibers enter your bloodstream, potentially damaging your liver.
So how much exercise is too much? Restricting your hard workout regimens to 3-4 days a week and allowing a rest day or two is a great idea. You need to be conscious to combine an intense exercise regimen with great nutrition as well. Only you know your body the best, so my advice as always is to pay attention to how your body feels. Push yourself enough, but not to the point of exhaustion.
Exercise produces the best results when you’re consistent with your routine. I believe it should be simply part of an overall wellness strategy to improve your life.
I encourage you to get active, keep a journal to monitor your minutes, and at the very least, meet your healthy active minimum each week. If you’re an avid exerciser make sure you take time to recover.
Here is my personal workout-rest schedule to give you an idea of how I plan my week:
Monday: Running and gym, high intensity level
Tuesday: Cycling and yoga, moderate intensity level
Wednesday: Body weight Interval training, high intensity level
Thursday: Active rest day for fun walk or hiking, low intensity level
Friday: Cycling and running, moderate intensity level but long duration
Saturday: Active rest for family fun swimming, paddle boarding, low intensity level
Sunday: Rest
I usually adjust my intensity level and workout duration to ensure my workout is stress free and fun.
I shared my fitness schedule for the week. Now it’s your turn. What does your week look like?

Are There Foods That Burn Fat?

Are There Foods That Burn Fat?

Q: Are there really foods that burn fat? If so, what are they?
A: Not really, but there are foods that contain fewer calories than the body uses to digest them. Therefore, when you eat these foods (cruciferous veggies, leafy greens, and so forth), you're helping create a calorie deficit.
That said, there are also certain foods that will crank up your metabolism by releasing the right hormones. Protein will release more human growth hormone. Foods with selenium and zinc will support a healthy thyroid. You can boost your metabolic rate by eating clean, whole, fresh foods and avoiding processed foods and chemicals. But there is no food that will magically burn off fat. For that, you have to get off your butt and get moving!

Kelebihan Bersenam.

Haaaa..apa kaitan gambar dengan tajuk ni? mesti pelik kan?
macam tu jugak la ekspresi sesetengah orang bila diajak bersenam.
Macam kita ajak berperang pulak kan? hihi.
Ketahuilah banyak taw kelebihan jika kita bersenam ni.

1. Berlaku hipertrofi otot jantung.
Saiz jantung setiap individu berbeza.
(a) Penambahan saiz kaviti ventrikel-ventrikel
(b) Bertambah ketebalan dinding ventrikel.

2. Meningkatkan daya tahan kardiovaskular

3. Menambahkan isipadu sedenyut jantung (stroke volume)
Hipertrofi jantung menyebabkan jantung menjadi semakin kuat disebabkan pertambahan bilangan otot-otot kardiak.

  6. menjadi satu sumber rekreasi
  7. mendapat pendapatan kerjaya
  8. menambahkan pengambilan oksigen oleh tisu-tisu tubuh badan
  9. mengurangkan kecederaan dan mempercepatkan pemulihan
  10. meningkatkan kestabilan emosi dan penghargaan kendiri
  11. mengurangkan asid laktik dalam darah sewaktu bersenam
  12. meningkatkan koordinasi psikomotor
  14. meningkatkan kapasiti paru-paru
  15. memperbaiki efisien kerja
  16. memperbaiki serta meningkatkan kesihatan diri keseluruhannya

What to do after you lose your weight?

Q: After losing a lot of weight — and tracking every single thing I was consuming, how can I go back to having a normal relationship with food and not overthinking every bite?
A: The first thing to address here is what you believe a “normal” relationship with food is. Many who have gone on a diet and lost weight feel that a “normal” relationship with food pertains to the way they were eating before they went on a diet. Let me clear, there is no such thing as a normal relationship with food — as in a uniform way to consume energy.
The key is to develop a balanced healthy lifestyle involving food as fuel AND pleasure that is also tailored to your personality, likes and dislikes, and finances.
Here is the one thing that will never change: Calories will never stop mattering. If you eat too much food you will gain weight. So it will be smart to always stay aware of what you are eating.
Now, with that said, I think you will find that this is much easier than it seems with time. We are creatures of habit and the great majority of us tend to eat the same 20 things over and over and over again: The same three to four breakfasts, three to four dinners, same snacks, etc.
So, here’s the trick: if you look those meals up once or twice you will remember their caloric amounts. Then, counting calories becomes next to second nature.
It really is that simple. As long as you don’t eat more calories than you are burning you won’t gain weight. And the great news about maintenance mode versus dieting mode is that you get to eat more since you are not trying to create a calorie deficit for weight loss.
When it comes to how you allot your calories, I personally allow around 20 percent of my daily intake to go towards treat foods and try to keep the other 80 percent really clean, but even if you didn’t adhere to that same ratio of good calories versus bad, then as long as you don’t overeat, you won’t gain weight. Just aim to make more good food choices than bad ones (Think: dry-roasted almonds instead of Cheez Doodles) to help maintain your health, as well as your weight!

If you stop exercising, your muscle turns into fat?

  1. If you stop exercising, your muscle turns into fat:
    • Once you've got your workout routine down, you'll be surprised at how toned you feel. But something like a vacation or sickness can set your regimen back, sometimes leading to weight gain. While many people believe the weight gain is from muscles turning into fat, both tissues are completely different and can't convert from one to the other (similarly, there's no way to make muscles leaner, since they are already fat-free). Instead, building muscle helps burn fat, so when you have less of it, your metabolism rate will be lower.

  2. Stretching muscles before a workout helps:
    • Whether it's indoctrinated in you from years of high school sports or just part of your routine, many people think that cold stretching before a workout helps them perform better. In fact, stretching before exercising has been shown to be a waste of time and detrimental before certain workouts, like lifting weights. Instead, save the hamstring stretches for after your workout, and warm up muscles before with a few minutes of low-intensity cardio or one of these dynamic stretches.

  3. You shouldn't exercise with sore muscles:
    • You took a butt-burning barre class yesterday, and now you can barely walk without wincing. You may think that you shouldn't work out again so soon afterward, but in reality, the right kind of exercise can not only make your sore muscles feel better, but also help you recover faster. Just make sure you aren't focusing too much on the affected area. If yesterday's workout included lower-body work, spend today focusing on your upper body, do a less-intense cardio session, or give weary muscles a good stretch in yoga class. Find out what else you should do when exercising with sore muscles here.

  4. Heavy weights make you bulk up:
    •  It's a common belief: lifting heavy weights will have you looking more bodybuilder than long and lean. But in reality, your muscles won't get Ms. Olympia-sized from lifting a 20-pound kettlebell; the size of your muscles is related to your genes and strength-training routine, not the size of your weights. Using heavier weights actually saves you time — studies show that you will get the same results when lifting heavier weights for fewer reps as you do with lifting lighter weights for longer. But no matter what size weight you use, make sure you choose one that is challenging your body the right way. The American Council on Exercise recommends that you choose a weight that fatigues your muscles within 90 seconds (aka makes you unable to perform another rep correctly), since that's within the limit of your muscles' supply of anaerobic energy.
  5. Soreness comes from lactic acid buildup:
    • It's an often-quoted principle that the delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) you feel in the days after your workout is from lactic acid in your body. In fact, DOMS is a symptom of micro tears in the muscles that happen when you work out. Lactic acid does play a part in your workout, however, since it is the cause of that burning sensation you feel when working your muscles. It actually fuels muscles to help you work out longer, so pushing past that burning sensation will help you increase your strength and endurance.

Overindulged This Week? Re-Start Today!!

How to Get Back on the Wagon

It happens — you over-indulged over the holidays, missed a few workouts and now you feel like you've fallen off the weight-loss wagon. It's tempting to mentally slap yourself around, right? (Or head for the fridge.) Before you start beating up on yourself, I want to remind you of something: Being hard on yourself is the Old You — get ready for the New You.
The New You knows how to deal with setbacks and get back on the wagon. And after all, there are no mistakes, just learning experiences. Weight loss is a process — it takes time. You will encounter small failures — everyone does — but every pound you gain can be lost.
And if you miss a workout, it's not the end of the world! Get to the gym the next day and continue to focus on your short-term goals. Just because you made bad choices today doesn't mean you can't start over tomorrow. New day? New beginning. And don't you forget it!

5 Secrets to a Better Workout

To get ripped, you have to hit the gym – hard. Let's face it, some days are just harder than others. Jillian Michaels shares her tips for improving your workout.
Some people assume that I just love to work out. Wrong! I’ll be the first to admit it, working out really sucks sometimes. But it’s a necessary evil — and one I’ve come to appreciate to get the physical and emotional results it brings. Whether it’s playing with the settings on the treadmill to keep me entertained or switching things up with a boot camp class, I have my own tricks for staying motivated to get through my workout. Next time you are bored with your routine or want to rev things up, give them a shot.
  1. Kick Up Your Cardio
The key to consistently challenging your body is to keep it guessing. When it comes to cardio, this is incredibly easy to do. You can create interval sets like walking on a steep incline for two minutes, then run on a flat level for one minute. Or jog for two minutes, sprint for one minute. You can also try running and jogging in quarter-mile bursts. Depending on your fitness level, any of these interval workouts will help you bump your calorie burn.
Just be sure that you’re always keeping your heart rate at 85 percent of your maximum. To calculate your maximum heart rate, if you’re a woman, subtract your age from 220. If you’re a man, subtract your age from 226. That number is your maximum heart rate in beats per minute.
  2. Switch It Up
If you don’t know by now, I HATE the treadmill. It’s torture — I can only play with intervals and inclines for so many days a week. On the other days, I get my cardio fix by mixing things up. Adding variety into your routine forces your body to progress because you're physically requiring it to adapt to new stimulus. So take a boxing, Cross Fit, barre method, Zumba® or dance, yoga, kettlebells or spinning class. Better yet, try a different one every week if you can. By training in different ways, your body becomes more efficient, well rounded, and less prone to injury. So break out of your comfort zone and try something new. Bring a friend with you if you’re intimidated!
  3. Sweat In Style
I’m all about the laid-back look, like jeans and cute tees, but when it comes to gym gear — nothing gets me pumped up like a cool new pair of kicks. Investing in stylish, comfortable clothes and killer kicks can really amp up the enthusiasm for dragging yourself to the gym. So what if you’re there to show off your hot, new gear. You’re still working it on the elliptical, and that’s all I care about.
  4. Trick Your Bod
Your body quickly adapts to the number of repetitions you perform. This is why changing your repetitions on a weekly basis will help you improve the effectiveness of your workouts. First you need to calculate your one-rep maximum, or the maximum amount of weight you can lift once, and still do it properly. With that number, use this quick four-week plan as a guide:
Week 1: Do 3 sets of 20 repetitions at 40 percent of your maximum repetition.

Week 2: Do 3 sets of 15 repetitions at 55 percent of your maximum repetition.

Week 3: Do 4 sets of 10 repetitions at 70 percent of your maximum repetition.

Week 4: Do 2 sets of 5 repetitions at 90 percent of your maximum repetition.

By the end of four weeks, your maximum repetition may have changed and you can continue to work off of this pyramid method to continue to challenge your muscles.
  5. Get Techie
These days, there are a lot of new products that make working out more fun. Here are a few of my favorites.
I need music to work out, but sometimes when I run, the smaller earbuds easily fall out of my ears, which annoys the crap out of me. The solution? These headphones — they’re waterproof AND they hook into your ears so they stay put. They’re also designed for intense, active workouts — so they can handle some serious wear and tear.
X-Box Kinect is a camera that picks up your entire body — so you don’t have to worry about controllers. It fully monitors your form and everything you’re doing. If you’re going to invest in a video-game fitness console, this takes the cake. It’s a great way to exercise with your kids as well. They get to play their games, but you’re getting them to work out at the same time. A little bit deceptive, but 100 percent effective.
This website is awesome: ActiveWatches.com. It helps you find the perfect watch, specific to the sport that you’re playing, and it also takes into consideration all of the features you’re looking for.
The BodyMedia FIT armband is an amazing weight-loss tool. It is an armband that gives you highly accurate information on the number of calories you burn throughout the day, and it also tracks the quality of your sleep — which is an important factor in weight loss — and nutrition and workout data. I love the easy-to-use food log that this device offers. Learn more about the device and how you can use it with my online program.
So you get the drill. When it comes to working out, try to keep things new and fresh. If you’re consistently doing the same workout, your routine will start to feel stale —fast. So switch it up and style it up. After all that, you might actually want to go to the gym.

Crazy diet? What is the best way to lose weight??

Move It to Lose It

Know someone who's getting amazing results from an insanely low-calorie diet? It may be tempting to severely restrict your calories in hopes of a drastic weight loss, but don't even think about it! Truth is, very few people can maintain one of those crazy kinds of diets for more than a couple of weeks. And to make things worse, most people on near-starvation diets gain back all the weight (and more) just a few months later.
In weight-loss terms, fat is energy and the best way to lose it is to use it. You have to do it with diet and exercise. If you diet without exercise, the majority of your weight loss will be from muscle. The minute you stray from your diet, the weight will come right back on.
The only way to lose it for good is to get moving! Exercise not only helps you burn calories, it also helps build, strengthen, and maintain lean muscle. Exercise has another benefit called afterburn. A great cardio routine keeps burning fat not just during your workout but for hours afterward. Not bad, eh?
The rule of the game is increasing your intensity. The exercise afterburn is also referred to as "excess post-exercise oxygen consumption." It represents the calories used up to return the body back to its pre-exercise state, or resting level, which can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 48 hours, depending on the intensity and duration of the workout. What's more, if you do my resistance-training workout from my Web site in the morning and your cardio at night, you will reap the benefits of a twice-a-day afterburn without overtraining your muscles.
Doing any type of physical activity is healthier than sitting on the couch downing a bag of chips. And activities like bowling and golf do burn calories — but not enough. To see dramatic weight loss, you must do heart-pumping cardio. Cardio is any activity that is rhythmic, continuous, requires the movement of large muscles, and raises your heart rate. While bowling and golf get you moving, the action is stop-and-go. There's no reason to give up those activities, just be aware that you must still put in time on the treadmill (or doing some other cardio activity) as well.
